En Boca Opens in Harvard Square

On Tuesday, October 4th, 2016, Peter Sarmanian and Bill Goodwin of Classic Restaurant Concepts, the restaurateurs behind the popular Irish restaurants & pubs The Asgard, located in Cambridge’s Central Square, and The Kinsale located in Government Center (www.classicirish.com), will officially open their third concept, En Boca (www.enbocacambridge.com) in the heart of Harvard Square.

Located at 8 Holyoke Street in Cambridge, MA, En Boca is a 132 seat Mediterranean-inspired wine bar serving fresh, locally sourced small platesand sharable dishes cultivated from the farm, land and sea. Occupying the space that was once Sandrine’s bistro, the new décor offers a mid-century meets modern feel complete with features plush booths, rich woodwork and custom art fixtures.

Finding inspiration from Turkey, Lebanon, Spain, Morocco and the Middle East, En Boca’s menu reflects creative takes on traditional tapas, and is divided by source with options from “the farm,” such as baked farm egg with chorizo dressing and spoonbread, and “the land,” including Berkshire pork belly zucchini and wood grilled hanger with vidalia onion, bone marrow and salsa verde. By “sea” guests will find bacalou croquettes with lemon aioli and malt vinegar, and stuffed baby squid with pine nut, olive oil and balsamic, while “the garden” offers patatas bravas with aioli, tomato and sweet pepper, and byrek, a savory spinach pie. En Boca’s menu also has small bites such as padron peppers blistered with romesco crumb and pintxo crispy chicken skin and larger shareable plates, aged meats and a rotating selection of farmstead cheeses.

While there is something for everyone, En Boca doesn’t take the diner for granted and dedicates the second page of the menu to explain the nuances of less common ingredients and cooking methods. From describing the texture of cloumage, a fresh lactic curd made from the cows’ milk at Shy Brothers Farm, to pintxo, a Basque word that literally means a “spike,” chef strives to educate the guest while giving them the autonomy to create their own unique experience.

At the 17 seat bar, En Boca will pour 8 globally sourced wines from its Enomatic fine wine preservation system and six craft beers on tap. Under the guidance of bar manager Barry Barry, En Boca will also have a rotating selection of seasonal cocktails with an emphasis on house-made infused spirits such as the Strawberry Peach Fizz made with hibiscus-infused gin, house-made strawberry cordial, sweetened cream, lemon juice, crème de pêche, egg whites and bitters ($14), the Crimson Crush, cherry cedar-infused rye with spiced honey syrup and draft cider ($11), and Winter in the Yard, Tansy-infused vodka with sweetened cream, Patron XO and nutmeg ($13).

The restaurant also hosts an intimate 36-seat private dining room that is available for all occasions. En Boca is located at 8 Holyoke Street in Cambridge and hours of operation are Sunday-Saturday from 5PM-1AM with dinner served Sunday-Wednesday from 5PM-10PM and Thursday-Saturdayfrom 5PM-11PM. A late night menu will be served at the bar from Sunday-Wednesday from 10PM-12AM and Thursday-Saturday from 11PM – 12AM.

Guests will find ample tables, sofas and chairs to accommodate groups of all sizes, and the 5700 square foot space boasts two hand-crafted communal tables perfect for enjoying a pint while taking in the live music and weekly entertainment. En Boca, the latest endeavor by Classic Restaurant Concepts, opened in Cambridge’s Harvard Square in 2016. The Mediterranean-inspired wine bar and restaurant is led by Executive Chef Devin Broo whose menu is comprised of a variety of seasonally-inspired small plates.
